Project Description

Museum aan de Stroom (Sustainability with a rich appearance)

In 2015, the city of Antwerp will host ‘The International Conference on the History of Cartography’. This prompted the Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) to organize an international exhibition on world views.

‘The world mirrored. World maps from the Middle Ages to the present’ tells the history of the Western world view through unique maps and globes, from the Middle Ages to the present. It can be seen how drastically this image has changed over the centuries. The exhibition gets extra color: some contemporary artists have added their image to the world.

MAS’s assignment for this temporary exhibition was to devise and build a fresh design – within a limited budget and preferably using existing furniture from earlier exhibitions. Heijmerink Wagemakers has succeeded in this and, in collaboration with designer Pronk from Rotterdam, is setting up a surprisingly new, adventurous exhibition with a rich appearance. From the end of April to mid-August 2015, the result can be viewed in Antwerp. A project previously realized by Heijmerink Wagemakers at the MAS is the permanent exhibition ‘On Life and Death’.
