House of European History

The heart of Brussels has a museum that tells the history of Europe. In a beautiful, monumental building with an industrial atrium, historical developments and events pass through about six storeys. The client for this prestigious project was the European Parliament, which – based on a design by Acciona Sevilla (Spain) – took Meyvaert as project manager and partner.

On behalf of the latter, Heijmerink Wagemakers developed and built the ‘mechanical interactives’ within the European House. Think of industrial information columns with a height from floor to ceiling, an interactive graphic wall and a huge ‘rolodex’, where the maps are provided with historical photographs.

We also realized special furniture, such as a generous coffee table and a round bench with a diameter of 8 meters, which both get projected images from above an extra dimension.

For Heijmerink Wagemakers a varied project of international allure. The House of European History opened in the spring of 2016.
