Rijksmuseum Muiderslot

Last year, Heijmerink Wagemakers developed and realized an air-conditioned display case for Rijksmuseum Muiderslot. Here, vulnerable collection items are protected from changing weather influences, which penetrate the walls of the castle. In this way, the collection items cannot be damaged by the varying temperatures or the moisture that flows through the thick walls.

This spring, Heijmerink Wagemakers was commissioned again by Rijksmuseum Muiderslot for a custom-made display case. This time to give restored boxes – three centuries-old – the podium that they deserve!

The very heavy boxes (varying in weight between 60 and 250 kilos) each have their own glass bell that is placed on a communal podium. The three glass bells can be opened at the front. Because we have placed industrial drawer slides under each box, the boxes can easily be slid out of the bell jar for interim maintenance of the object and showcase. The project has now been completed in pleasant collaboration with curators and designer Theo van Tienhoven.
