Joods Historisch Museum (Portugese synagogue)

Located in the centre of Amsterdam, between the Waterloo square and the Hermitage museum stands an impressive monument: the Portugese Synagoge dating back to 1675. After an extensive renovation part of the extension buildings have been opened to the public. In the basement of the extension buildings Kosmann.dejong has designed transparent treasure rooms. Visitors can walk along large glass walls and view an extraordinary quantity of top art collections in their natural context.

In an enjoyable cooperation with the Synagoge and Kossmann.dejong Heijjmerink Wagemakers has fully developed and realized the interior of the museum shop as well as the treasure rooms.

A silver-, book-, and textile depot have been built in the treasure rooms which fully comply with the strict demands by the museum.
