Project Description

Court of the Netherlands (Experience the birth of the Netherlands)

On Kings Day 27 April 2015 King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima opened the Hof of the Netherlands in Dordrecht by signing a modern translation of the minutes of the First Free States Meeting. The renovated monumental Hof of the Netherlands is the location where in 1572 the foundation was laid for the independent Republic. Today it’s a historic museum of national grandeur that takes the visitor from the middle ages until today. The exhibition is truly an experience that shows the formation of the Netherlands through a combination of exhibitions and presentations. By means of touchscreens, slides and a movie of the Free States Meeting with present day actors.

XPEX has designed the new facility of the Hof of the Netherlands. Based on this design Heijmerink Wagemakers prepared a detailed technical plan and realized the construction of the museum presentations.

The arched roofs based on the old monastery domes are striking and show the artifacts in a magnificent way. Each arched roof has different dimensions and each show case is unique.

Each show case is air conditioned and is certified burglary proof (SKG). By touching the presented artifacts on the screen of he interactive show cases the visitor will get full information.

Due to he small entrance to the arched cellars construction was a challenge and was done piece by piece. This project showed our expertise in finding creative solutions which we finalised with great pride and makes a visit to this exhibition very worthwhile.
