Castellum

Right on the spot where a fort once guarded the Roman border, now stands Castellum Hoge Woerd: the cultural-historical theme park in Leidsche Rijn in Utrecht. In this modern interpretation of the fort you can find a unique combination of a museum, a theater, a center for nature and environmental education and a café-restaurant.

Heijmerink Wagemakers was commissioned to realize the engineering and construction of all exhibitions in Cultuurpark Castellum.
And there are quite a few! A large number of exhibitions of this large-scale project were completed for the festive opening of August 30th. For example, there are now four gate towers on the grounds with viewers and showcases that give an insight into the past via augmented reality.

In Het Paviljoen the original Roman ship ‘De Meern I’ with the ship inventory is exhibited, including a replica of the cabin. An impressive whole!
In the near future, various exhibitions will be held on ‘the changing landscape’ and ‘the history of 3000 years of the Leidse Rijn’.

There will also be a petting zoo. And last but not least, seven special exhibits on archeology, where you learn how ancient objects are preserved, restored and reconstructed.
